Boat Reflection & Rubric

Here is the rubric that we are using to assess our explanations of our boats that have been built to carry a load. Students will be making videos to explain why they designed their boat the way they did, why they chose their materials and if they think it will float/sink and why.

Have your child practice explaining this to you at home this weekend. Ask them to reflect using the rubric and how they could improve for the next time.

What Can I Do at Home!?

It was so wonderful to chat with most of the parents yesterday over the phone. I am so happy that everyone from our class is healthy and doing well at home. If we didn't get a chance to connect please feel free to email me so that we can! The teachers are busy learning how to use Google Classroom and Google Meets to support learning moving forward. I should have an update for all the parents again by Friday. The show must go on! In the meantime... Here are some helpful tricks that might make living in your house a bit easier. Hats off to you parents during this very tricky time... You are all rockstars! 1. Come up with a "schedule" for the day. Kids thrive off of routines and predictability. Sit down with them and create a little schedule for each day and talk to them about what they can expect. Kids enjoy getting to be a part of this process too. Homework & Blog

Please check the home page on the blog daily for important information. There will no longer be any homework sent home with the students each week. Instead, in an effort to reduce the amount of paper sent home, weekly learning activities will be posted to the weekly learning tab. Please check this at throughout the week if you are looking for ways to practice learning skills at home. You are welcome to print some of these activities and complete them at home if you would like. The curriculum connections tab will be where you can find the bigger ideas of what we are learning, the rationale behind it, and how it connects to the Grade 2 curriculum. Blackfoot People

We have been continuing to develop our understanding of the Prairie community in the past and those who lived before us. This week we have been taking lots about some of the customs that the Blackfoot people had and comparing them to some of the customs that we have today. We have also been talking about the impact that the Europeans and the fur trade had on the Blackfoot community. Please continue this conversation at home.
